Quinoa, potato, carrot, and peas simmered in a simple herb-finished broth.

Is this the right meal for today?
This is an accessible vegetable-stock adaptation inspired by Andean quinoa soups. It is a different choice from a cold quinoa salad: the grain cooks directly in the broth and gives the soup body. It does not represent every soup from Peru, and dairy, meat, and herb choices vary in other versions.
Plan the method before you start
Rinse quinoa in a fine sieve before adding it. Cut the potato small enough to become tender within the grain’s cooking window. Quinoa continues to absorb liquid as it stands, so use water to adjust the consistency at serving rather than assuming the initial stock volume remains unchanged. The selected photograph is a reference for quinoa soup, not an ingredient checklist; this particular recipe contains no cheese or egg.
